  • New Asia-Pacific Chapter Strengthens Initiative’s International Reach and Expands Global Momentum for Climate Action in Private Markets

  • The chapter will be chaired by Jie Gong, Fellow of the Hall of Fame and Co-Chair of the company’s ESG Committee, who also founded and chairs the ESG Committee of the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association.

  • The launch was also supported by Eimear Palmer, who joined Pantheon in August as a partner and the firm’s first global ESG head.

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Pantheon, one of the world’s leading private markets investors, is delighted to have led the launch of the new Asia-Pacific chapter of International Climate Initiative (iCI), the global initiative which seeks to harness the collective efforts of private market actors to address climate change and accelerate the transition to a carbon-free global economy.

The launch builds on Pantheon’s track record of partnering with leading industry bodies that champion global standards and best practices in reporting and monitoring environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues in a way more generally, and climate risks and opportunities in particular. We were the second private equity firm in the world to sign on to the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in 2007, while in 2021 we became signatories to both the iCI and of the Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Jie Gong, partner of Pantheon and co-chair of its ESG committee, will chair the Asia-Pacific chapter of the iCI. Jie was previously a member of the Global Committee of PRI’s Private Equity Advisory Board. She also founded and chairs the ESG Committee of the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, of which she is Vice-Chair.

The launch of iCI’s Asia-Pacific chapter was also supported by Eimear Palmer, who joined Pantheon in August as a partner and the first global head of ESG. Eimear has been a long-time supporter and active participant of the iCI, having previously co-founded the initiative’s UK network. Most recently, she served as co-chair of the iCI Carbon Footprint Task Force, which partnered with ERM earlier in 2022 to develop and publish the first private market greenhouse gas disclosure standard.

“I am delighted to chair the new chapter of iCI and look forward to working with colleagues and peers across the Asia-Pacific region to further the initiative’s mission to share and develop best practices in monitoring, reporting and setting climate-related targets,” Jie said.

Eimear commented, “I am delighted to have joined Pantheon as we seek to meet growing investor demand and grow our business within the ESG agenda. We are pleased to further develop our relationship with iCI and support this important new chapter, which will play a key role in continuing the momentum for action on climate change in private markets.

iCI members form a global community led by private market business practitioners and investors seeking to better understand and manage the risks associated with climate change. Members are committed to sharing knowledge, experience and best practices, and working together to develop resources that will help standardize practices in climate risk mapping, disclosure and target setting in markets private.

Globally, iCI now has 206 members managing over $3 trillion in assets. The initiative is supported by the PRI and is a supporting partner of The Investor Agenda.
